"Democracy is a device that ensures that we shall be governed no better than we deserve." - George Bernard Shaw, 1856-1950 Politics and Government in America are only as good as the people that are involved in it. Many people believe that there is nothing that they can do to improve the situation, but that's simply not true. Recently, more and more Americans have come to realize that if they want a better kind of politics and government, then they have to get involved. You can help to raise the level of political awareness by doing some simple things. - Attend your county, town and/or village board meetings as often as possible.
- Volunteer to be on a committee or board for your town or village board.
- Talk to your neighbors
- Form or join a citizens advisory group to discuss and share concerns & ideas
- Start up or sign an issue petition.
- Run for school board, town board or supervisor.
- Help someone get nominated to run for town board or other position in government.
- Join your local Democratic Committee, or offer to help them out.
- Create or Pass out flyers.
- Write, email, call, or, best of all, visit your elected representatives regularly.
- Ask questions of your elected representatives, contact them regularly.
- Work as a poll inspector on polling day.
- Help organize a rally, or attend one.
- Volunteer for a campaign.
- Hand out campaign or issue literature at your local post office.
